Do you feel the words?

One thing I really love about writing is the feel of the words.

I’m not talking about what the story makes you feel, but the actual words themselves.

When the right words are collected together in the right way, they flow. Or not.

Words can fill your mouth like a robust red wine, or flatten it like a sour lemon. But more than that, they can fill and expand your mind. Make you feel peaceful or excited, curious or alert, no matter what they’re saying when put together.

There’s more to it, of course. There’s the connotation of certain words that exist beyond their actual meaning (think “moist” or “juicy”).

And of course, there’s the story they tell.

But well-chosen words, ones that flow, words that move me before the message has even sunk in… they’re the words that work.

In that way, writing, even for business, is an art form. There’s a lot of strategy and technique to copywriting, but it’s the creativity that reels us in.

What about you? Do you feel the words?
